Deputy Director, Bilateral Trade
Position Overview
Participate in negotiations on various Bilateral, Regional and Multilateral Trade Agreements.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the formulation, implementation and review of policies, strategies and regulations on bilateral trade and diaspora engagement in line with the Ministry’s Strategic Plan and national development goals and priorities
Participate in negotiations on various Bilateral, Regional and Multilateral Trade Agreements
Monitor implementation of Bilateral Trade Agreements
Coordinate participation of Zimbabwe at Joint Trade Committee Meetings and Joint Permanent Commissions
Review export performance of the various sectors and suggest industry specific measures to optimize export earnings
Disseminate information to the business community and the general public on regional and international markets and Bilateral Trade Agreements Zimbabwe is party to
Initiate dialogue with host countries to enter into bilateral agreements to ensure the promotion and protection of Zimbabwean citizens abroad
Facilitate the mainstreaming of the Diaspora issues into the national development agenda
Develop and manage an Integrated Diaspora Information System, including managing a Diaspora database and website linked to all stakeholders
Develop awareness campaign on Diaspora investment opportunities, procedures, and regulations, and removing any domestic bottlenecks
Encourage Diaspora direct investment in the productive sectors as well as other sectors of the economy
Promote capacity building and transfer of skills by the Diaspora to various sectors
Conduct diaspora mapping to assess skills availability and related demographics in an attempt to lure individuals in the diaspora to contribute in the national development agenda
Supervise, coach and counsel subordinates.
Qualifications
A degree in Economics, Business Studies, International Trade or equivalent
A Master’s Degree is an added advantage
At least 6 years experience in the Officer or equivalent grade.
Skills
In-depth knowledge on economic research and trade negotiations
A sound understanding of Zimbabwe’s economic policies and programmes
Ability to work under pressure and demonstrate good leadership qualities
