Deputy Director, Consular Services

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage systems that promote the interests of Zimbabwean nationals abroad
• Facilitate the issuance of diplomatic and service passports to authorized individuals
• Coordinate the processing of passport applications, ensuring accurate verification of citizenship and nationality for Zimbabwean nationals living abroad
• Coordinate the issuance of birth certificates and other relevant documents for Zimbabwean nationals abroad, ensuring compliance with legal requirements
• Liaise with Zimbabwean Missions abroad to manage the issuance or renewal of passports and Emergency Travel Documents for nationals abroad
• Coordinate the processing of visa applications for Zimbabwean officials traveling on government business
• Coordinate the repatriation of destitute or stranded Zimbabweans abroad, as well as the repatriation of remains of deceased nationals
• Administer the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and coordinate with foreign embassy consular officers regarding their nationals in Zimbabwean prisons, arranging consular visits as necessary
• Respond to general consular inquiries from the public and manage consular cases involving Zimbabwean nationals in foreign countries
• Prepare notices conferring privileges and immunities on international organizations for publication in the Government Gazette
• Prepare international instruments and submit for signing
• Supervise, counsel and coach subordinates
