Deputy Director, Multilateral Affairs
Position Overview
Implementing policies governing relations with international and intergovernmental organisations.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the formulation, implementation and review of policies governing Zimbabwe’s relations with international and intergovernmental organizations in line with the Ministry’s strategic plans and national development imperatives
Implement policies governing relations with international and intergovernmental organisations
Analyse global political, social, environmental and security developments of national interest to Zimbabwe
Recommend for the negotiation of agreements with international Organisations e.g. African Union, Southern African Development Committee, European Union and United Nations
Facilitate the holding of meetings to review Joint Commission Sessions, prepare briefs, speeches and position papers e.g. Joint Commission on immigration
Facilitate the negotiation of agreements with International Organisations e.g. WHO on Immunisation programmes, FAO on new seed varieties
Prepare briefs, speeches and messages of International Organisations, like the United Nations all its affiliated Organisations, African, Caribbean and Pacific/European Union (ACP-EU), World Trade Organisations, Food and Agriculture Organisation and United Nations Human Rights Council
Monitor Zimbabwe’s participation in regional and international fora
Monitor Zimbabwe’s participation in international peacekeeping missions
Participate in the mobilization of internal humanitarian assistance programme from multilateral organisations alleviate the impact of food shortages occasioned by drought and floods
Facilitate for the election of Zimbabwe and employment of Zimbabwean nationals to international bodies in order to maximise benefits from membership of and contributions to those organisations
Supervise, coach and counsel subordinates.
Qualifications
A Social Science Degree with a bias in International Relations and Economics
A relevant Master’s Degree would be an added advantage
At least 6 years experience in the Administrative Officer or equivalent grade.
Skills
Ability to work under pressure and demonstrate good leadership qualities
A knowledge of world dynamics is a prerequisite
Must have a thorough knowledge of Multi Lateral Agreements
