Deputy Director, Environmental Quality
Position Overview
The incumbent will report to Director, Environment Management and will be responsible for facilitating the development of environment management policies and strategies in line with the Ministry’s strategic plan
Responsibilities
Contribute to the development of environment management policies and strategies in line with the Ministry’s strategic plan, mandate and national development imperatives
Provide frameworks for impact analysis and environmental compliance on development projects to ensure they meet all requirements
Superintend over the conduct of environment and natural resources research and analysis in support of sustainable development
Advocate for the education, training and awareness on environment and natural resources conservation
Develop processes and procedures for conducting environment and natural resources assessments and review for development proposals
Coordinate the provision of environment and natural resources information and ensure stakeholder participation in environmental programmes
Coordinate the domestication and implementation of Bilateral and Multi-Lateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) and Environmental financing mobilisation
Oversee the institutional and administrative arrangements for coordinating environmental assessments
Supervise, coach and counsel subordinates
Qualifications
A degree in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management or any other related field
At least six (6) years relevant experience in the Environment Officer grade or equivalent.
Skills
An understanding of the regulations and policies, Regional and International protocols and Conventions on Environment Management issues
Experience in programme and project development, integrated planning and analysis, implementation, and management
Strong technical understanding of ecosystem restoration, biodiversity conservation and climate smart resource management
Strategic leadership skills
Ability to communicate and network at all levels
Research and analytical skills
Ability to employ information communication technology in the monitoring of environment management programmes.
