Deputy Director, Construction and Maintenance

Role Overview

1. Contribute to construction and maintenance policy formulation, implementation and review in line with the Ministry's strategic plan and national development imperatives. 2. Manage Government construction and maintenance activities to ensure that projects are completed within stipulated timeframes. 3. Monitor progress of construction and maintenance works being carried out by the Department. 4. Provide technical advice to user Ministries/Departments on construction and maintenance issues. 5. Coordinate the registration and placement of contractors into their categories. 6. Engage/consult the Quantity Survey Department for the valuation of construction and maintenance works and cost estimates for construction projects. 7. Compile monthly and yearly progress reports on construction and maintenance activities nationwide. 8. Provide technical input into the procurement of equipment, services and materials for construction and maintenance programmes and projects. 9. Participate in the mobilization of resources and the development of budgets and funding strategies for construction and maintenance programmes. 10. Develop and maintain a database of all construction and maintenance projects and programmes. 11. Supervise, coach and counsel subordinates.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Structural , electrical, Mechanical, Architectural, construction Engineering or equivalent.
  • Possession of a Master of Science Degree in field (s) is an added advantage.
  • At least six (6) years experience at Engineer/ Architect/Officer grade.
  • Be registered with the Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers.
  • Proficiency in planning, supervising and executing large scale construction projects including civil, structural and mechanical works.
  • Knowledge of national and international building codes, safety standards and environmental regulations.
  • Familiarity with construction software tools like AutoCAD, BIM (building Infomation Modeling) and project management software to enhance efficiency.
