DIRECTOR, PROVINCIAL EDUCATION SERVICES

Role Overview

The incumbent will report to Chief Director, Provincial Education Services and will be responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of policies, guidelines, regulations and legislation for Primary, Secondary and Non-Formal Education sectors and ensure that they are in sync with the Ministry’s Strategic Plan and National Development goals and aspirations, provide guidance on compliance with the provisions of the Education Act and related regulations by state and non-state institutions and other relevant stakeholders in the provision of formal and non-formal education in the Province, support capacity development initiatives for psycho-educational and special needs education screening, assessment, referral and intervention programmes for learners in schools, including the provision of sign language and Braille support services at Provincial level, coordinate the implementation of the approved curriculum, its relevance to learning abilities, aptitudes and needs of pupils in the Province, contribute to the development and implementation of a robust schools management model for Primary, Secondary and Non-Formal Education in the Province. monitor the administration of continuous assessment, tests and public examinations for formal and non-formal learners in the Province, develop systems for monitoring, controlling and managing school enrolments, staff deployments, conduct and well-being in the province, participate in the development of collaborative partnerships on Primary, Secondary and Non-Formal Education with Government Departments and other relevant stakeholders in line with the Ministry`s thrust on providing quality education in the Province and organise capacity development initiatives for Teachers and personnel in the Province for effective syllabi interpretation and implementation.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A degree in Education, Curriculum Development or equivalent
  • A professional education qualification (Pedagogy) is a pre-requisite
  • A Masters degree in Education or equivalent is an added advantage
  • At least eight (8) years relevant experience in the education sector, of which two (2) must be at Deputy Director/ District Schools Inspector Level or equivalent
  • Understanding of the Ministry policies and National development policies and goals
  • Expertise in developing, analysing and implementing education policies to improve service delivery and accessibility
  • Proficiency in designing frameworks to ensure equitable, high quality education services for all learners
  • Knowledge of aligning educational services with curriculum goals, including teacher training and resource distribution
  • Familiarity with national, regional and international education standards and ensuring adherence across schools
  • Understanding the role of technology in enhancing education service delivery and promoting innovation
  • Ability to communicate with a broad spectrum of stakeholders
  • Supervisory and Management skills
