Role Overview
Co-ordinate the implementation of national veterinary policies, strategies and programs in line with the Ministry’s mandate, strategic plan as well as national development imperatives. Coordinate animal disease surveillance, prevention and control, pest control and animal welfare functions throughout the country. Consolidate national data related to animal disease surveillance, prevention & control, pest control & animal welfare to facilitate timely decision-making in the Department. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of national veterinary programmes and policies throughout the country in order to sustain Government and stakeholder’s efforts to grow the national herd. Coordinate the provision of technical support, extension and advisory services to livestock farmers and relevant stakeholders.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A degree in Veterinary Science/Medicine. A Masters degree in a relevant field is an added advantage. A minimum of six (6) years experience at Veterinary Officer Grade or equivalent level. Must be a member of a recognised Veterinary body. Must have sound understanding of animal disease, prevention and control, pest control and animal welfare in the context of national economic development policies and programmes. Understanding of national, regional and international veterinary and animal health policies and legislations. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Oral and written communication skills. Supervisory and management skills Ability to employ Information Communication Technology in Veterinary Field Services Operations.
