Role Overview
Contribute to the formulation of national Mining policies and strategies in line with the Ministry’s Strategic plan and national development imperatives.; Oversee compliance monitoring of mining operations across the Province in accordance with mining laws and regulations.; Oversee the cadastral system for the allocation, registration and issuance of mining titles and licenses in the Province.; Coordinate the development of mineral beneficiation, value addition and investment promotion programmes and strategies in the Province.; Develop robust databases for geological information to ensure accurate documentation and archival of geological survey data for future reference.; Foster collaboration with mining license holders, local authorities, environmental bodies and community representatives for sustainable mining engineering practices in the Province.; Coordinate mechanisms for community engagement, grievance handling coordination, and community impact monitoring at Provincial level.; Provide expert advice on the evaluation of mining proposals, work plans, feasibility inputs and technical reports.; Superintend over the formulation of the provincial budgets and administration processes.; Provide input into the procurement of goods and services for the Provincial Mining Directorate.; Compile monthly reports on the mining activities within the Province.; Manage financial, human and material resources allocated to the Province
Requirements & Qualifications
- A degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Metallurgy or equivalent.
- A Master’s degree in the above mentioned field(s) is an added advantage.
- At least eight (8) years’ experience of which two (2) years must be at Deputy Director equivalent grade.
- Certification by a professional body is an advantage.
- Deep understanding of the Mines and Minerals Act and any other mining subsidiary mining statutes.
- Knowledge of mining processes, exploration techniques, and mineral resource management.
- Proficiency in formulating mining technical strategies and policies that align with national mining goals and international standards.
- Expertise in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and promoting health and safety in mining operations.
- Familiarity with modern mining technologies, such as automation, digitalization, and data analytics, to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
- Experience with artisanal and small scale mining oversight or community mining programmes.
- Knowledge of mining engineering principles, including exploration, extraction, and mine closure processes.
- Proficiency in creating and interpreting detailed maps, blueprints, and mine layouts.
