DIRECTOR, EUROPE AND AMERICAS

Role Overview

1. Contribute to the formulation, implementation and review of policies governing Zimbabwe’s political and economic relations with Europe and the Americas in line with the Ministry’s strategic plan and national development aspirations. 2. Facilitate and coordinate meetings between resident American and European Diplomatic Missions and other Government Ministries and Departments. 3. Coordinate the monitoring of political, economic, social and strategic developments in Europe and the Americas with the view to assess their implications for bilateral, regional and international relations 4. Mobilize moral, political and diplomatic support for Zimbabwe within the Europe and the Americas regions. 5. Manage the compilation and presentation of the Ministry’s position papers on foreign policy at various fora. 6. Recommend to the Chief Director plans on staff development programmes for members in the Department. 7. Plan and prepare results based budgets for the Department. 8. Supervise, coach and counsel subordinates.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A degree in Political Science/Politics and Administration/Economics/Law/Business Studies/International Relations or equivalent.
  • A relevant Master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • At least eight (8) years experience, of which two (2) years must be at Deputy Director or equivalent grade.
  • Thorough understanding of the Ministry’s functions.
  • Expertise in analysing political and economic relations between countries.
  • Ability to develop comprehensive policies that address both political and economic aspects.
  • In-depth understanding of the political and economic landscape in Europe and Americas.
  • Knowledge of trade agreements, economic policies and regional cooperation frameworks.
  • Advanced research skills to gather and interpret data relevant to international relations.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Communication skills.
  • Ability to employ information communication technology in designing programmes for Europe and the Americas and related decision areas.
