Deputy Director, Climate Resource

Role Overview
Contribute to the development, implementation and review of climate resource management policies, regulations and guidelines in line with the Ministry’s strategic plan, mandate and national development imperatives; Promote best practices in climate resource management strategies to enhance the country’s response and capacity to manage the impacts of climate change; Collaborate with other government agencies, international organizations, and civil society groups to align policies, share best practices in climate resource management initiatives; Coordinate research on climate resource management in line with regional and international best practices and make recommendations where necessary; Monitor the implementation of climate resource management projects as provided for in the National Climate Change Response Strategy; Promote education, training and awareness as well as communication and advocacy on climate resource management measures; Contribute to the development of budgets and funding strategies for climate resource initiatives for the department; Contribute to the preparation of technical papers, cabinet papers and speeches on climate resources management; Supervise, coach and counsel subordinates.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A degree in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Meteorology, Climate Change or any other related field
- A relevant Masters degree is an added advantage
- Certification and/or licensing with relevant professional accrediting organizations is advantage
- A minimum of six (6) years relevant experience in the Officer Grade or equivalent
- Knowledge of the regulations and policies, Regional and International protocols and Conventions on Climate Change and Environment Management issues
- Knowledge of global and national climate frameworks, such as the Paris Agreement, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and Nationally Determined Contributions
- Sound knowledge of current National Development policies, Programmes and Priorities
- Research and analytical skills
- Report Writing skills
- Experience in programme and project development, integrated planning and analysis, implementation and management
- Ability to communicate and network with a broad spectrum of stakeholders
- Strategic leadership skills
- Ability to employ information communication technology in climate change management programmes.
