Deputy Director, Carbon Credit

Role Overview

Contribute to the development, implementation and review of carbon policies and strategies in line with the Ministry’s strategic plan, mandate as well as national development imperatives; Coordinate the life cycle of carbon projects, including the development of project design documents, data collection and managing the validation and verification processes in line with regional and international best practices; Collaborate with other government agencies, international organizations, and civil society groups to align policies, share best practices, and leverage resources in carbon credit initiatives; Stay abreast of carbon market developments, including changes in national climate legislation as well as international standards and make recommendations where necessary; Oversee the monitoring, evaluation and reporting of carbon credit project results and achievements, ensuring data is robust and transparent; Contribute to the development of budgets and funding strategies for carbon initiatives for the department; Contribute to the preparation of technical papers, cabinet papers and speeches on carbon credits; Supervise, coach and counsel subordinates.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A degree in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Meteorology, Climate Change or any other related field
  • A relevant Masters degree is an added advantage
  • Certification and/or licensing with relevant professional accrediting organizations is advantage
  • A minimum of six (6) years relevant experience in the Officer grade or equivalent
  • In depth knowledge of carbon accounting, climate policies and reporting standards
  • Sound knowledge of current National Development policies, Programmes and Priorities
  • Negotiation skills

  • Report Writing skills
  • Proven project monitoring and evaluation skills
  • Ability to communicate and network with a broad spectrum of stakeholders.
