Deputy Director, Mechanisation

Role Overview

Contribute to the development and review of mechanization policies and strategies in line with the Ministry’s strategic plan, mandate and national development imperatives; Promote conservation agriculture and sustainable energy technologies in agriculture in the Province; Design, evaluate and manage construction of farm infrastructure (postharvest processing, storage and animal handling facilities) in the Province; Facilitate repair and maintenance of agricultural machinery and equipment in the Province; Develop frameworks to ensure that all developed and tested technologies are well packaged for use by Extension Officers and Farmers in the Province; Spearhead appropriate technology availability, utilization and promotion among commercial, small scale and communal farmers in the Province; Manage construction works on all conservation works; Prepare Public Sector Investment Projects (PSIP) plans and bids for the Province; Assess training needs of Extension Officers and Farmers in the Province on Agricultural Engineering and Mechanization Technologies and facilitate their training; Coordinate training of Extension Officers and Farmers in the Province on Mechanization Technologies; Supervise, coach and counsel subordinates.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bsc degree in Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • A Masters Degree in the above fields is an added advantage
  • At least six (6) years experience in the Engineer or equivalent grade
  • Proficiency in promoting and implementing mechanized agricultural production systems and practices
  • Skills in maintaining and repairing machinery to ensure reliability and efficiency
  • Expertise in training farmers and technicians on operating and maintaining modern agricultural equipment
  • Knowledge of eco- friendly and cost effective mechanization methods tailored to regional needs
  • Knowledgeable in post harvest handling and management of agricultural produce
  • Competency in overseeing the design, prototyping, and testing of agricultural machinery and equipment
  • Leadership and management skills
  • Communication skills
  • Ability to use Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) in mechanization programmes/ projects and related decision areas.
