Role Overview

Contribute to the formulation, implementation and review of agricultural marketing and trade policies, strategies, procedures and regulations in line with the Ministry’s strategic plan and national development goals and aspirations; Oversee agricultural trade surveys, agricultural markets identification, and evaluation of the marketing structure and performance of agribusiness markets for effective marketing of Zimbabwe’s agricultural produce; Engage Line Ministries/ Government Departments, Non-State organizations and other stakeholders in the establishment of markets for agricultural products and services; Oversee the development, operationalization and maintenance of a marketing and trade management information system (MIS), including price forecasts at national, regional and international levels; Coordinate the domestication and implementation of regional and International agricultural sector trade (marketing) treaties, protocols, agreements and standards; Facilitate negotiation of trade terms and deals between the Ministry and trading partners in the agricultural sector; Oversee and provide advice on agricultural trade regime (tariffs, quotas and any other trade measures) and their impact on the Zimbabwean agricultural sector; Facilitate coordination of production and trade of crops, livestock and other agricultural products and services; Coordinate the engagement of National, Regional and International Regional Agricultural Bodies for effective business and marketing synergies; Engage investors in the agricultural marketing and trade to forge Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs); Develop budgets and funding strategies for the department; Supervise, counsel and coach subordinates.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Business Management or equivalent
  • A Master’s degree in any of the above field(s) is an added advantage
  • A minimum of eight (8) years experience, of which two (2) years must be at Deputy Director Level or equivalent
  • Sound knowledge of current National Economic Development Policies and Programmes
  • Knowledge of trade agreements, tariffs and policies affecting domestic and international trade
  • Advanced knowledge of agricultural business investment models, including value chain analysis, agri business incubation, and financing mechanisms
  • Expertise in analyzing market trends, commodity pricing, and trade policies to inform investment strategies
  • Competence in collecting and analyzing data on agricultural production, trade and investment inflows in inform decision making
  • Knowledge of digital platforms and tools for marketing and trade
  • Good oral and written communication with a broad spectrum of stakeholders
  • Strong leadership and team building skills
