Role Overview
Contribute to the development of export development policies and strategies in line with the Ministry's mandate, strategic plan and national development imperatives; Coordinate export promotion programs, including trade missions, training workshops and export readiness assessments; Coordinate private sector participation in negotiations of regional and international trade agreements in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade; Contribute to the development of strategies that promote market access for domestic products in both continental and international markets; Develop spatial development strategies to enhance export capabilities; Provide technical input into the formulation, negotiation, implementation, and review of trade agreements; Provide guidance to exporters on compliance with international standards and best practices; Supervise market research to identify export opportunities, trends and challenges for local industry; Engage with trade associations and consumers; Supervise and counsel subordinates.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree in Economics, International Trade, Commerce, Business Studies, or equivalent.
- A relevant Masters degree is an added advantage.
- A minimum of six (6) years in the Economist/Officer grade or equivalent.
- Expertise in analysing global market trends, identifying export opportunities, and developing strategies to penetrate international markets.
- In-depth understanding of trade policies, export regulations, and international trade agreements to support exporters.
- Proficiency in enhancing value chains to improve product competitiveness and market access.
- Familiarity with export financing mechanisms, credit facilities, and incentive schemes to support exporters.
- Trade negotiation and diplomacy skills.
- Leadership and people management abilities.
- High-level analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to employ information communication technology in export development programmes and related decision areas.
