Role Overview

Contribute to the development, implementation and review of policies that guide the operations of the department.; Oversee the development of systems that align the department’s activities with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and plant safety protocols.; Manage and control all the plant and equipment, machines, aircraft, marine and radio operations.rn

Key Responsibilities

Develop strategies to ensure that provincial and district plant and equipment workshops are properly equipped and are providing an effective and efficient service.; Create and maintain relationships with service providers, contractors and Private Public Partners.; Contribute to the development of an annual programme for the procurement and replacement of plant and equipment and the disposal of obsolete equipment.; Coordinate the preparation for the Public Sector Investment Programme for the procurement of vehicles, plant and equipment and participate in the discussions with Treasury.; Superintend over the development of budgets and funding strategies for the department.; Manage the production and submission of reports on plant and equipment to the Chief Director.; Supervise, counsel and coach subordinates.rn

Requirements & Qualifications

A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.; A relevant Masters degree is an advantage.; Certification with a professional body is an added advantage.; At least eight (8) years experience, of which two (2) years must be at Deputy Director level or equivalent.; Proven experience in fleet management.rn

Required Skills

Proven ability to lead and mentor multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of safety and high performance. In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, plant utilities, automation/robotics, and predictive/preventive maintenance strategies. Ability to develop long-term equipment replacement, maintenance, and facility expansion plans that align with corporate strategy. Deep understanding of Occupational Safety, Health and Environment, standards, regulations and local building/safety codes. Supervisory and management skills.rn
