Role Overview
The incumbent will report to Director, Meteorological Services and will be responsible for the development, implementation and review of Aviation Weather forecasting policies/ strategies and procedures in line with the Ministry’s strategic plan, mandate and national development aspirations.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to the development, implementation and review of Aviation Weather forecasting policies/ strategies and procedures in line with the Ministry’s strategic plan, mandate and national development aspirations; Analyze and evaluate Aviation Weather observation reports and make recommendations to the Director; Manage the dissemination of Aviation Weather forecasting information in consultation with stakeholders; Organize capacity building workshops/seminars to improve Aviation Weather forecasting; Provide input on the procurement of Aviation Weather forecasting equipment; Develop and manage an Aviation Weather reports database and provide a history of past weather and climate conditions; Participate in the mobilization of resources and development of funding strategies on Aviation Weather forecasting; Supervise, counsel and coach subordinates in the Section
Requirements & Qualifications
A Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Physics or equivalent; A Masters in Meteorology and Climatology is an added advantage; Certification and/or licensing with relevant professional accrediting organizations is an advantage; At least six (6) years relevant work experience in the Meteorologist or equivalent grade
Required Skills
Expertise in collecting and analyzing weather observations using advanced tools such as radar systems, satellite imagery and automated weather stations
Proficiency in interpreting aviation meteorological data, including Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts (TAFs), METARS and SIGMETs
Knowledge of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations and guidelines for aviation meteorological services
Ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels
Leadership skills
